Skills
My main skill would be my artwork in the program Photoshop, this is where most of my creations are currently made which range from creatures and characters, to industrial designs and environments. I believe anything can have it’s own spark added to it or found interesting, and enjoy working with a wide variety of subject matter. I concentrate on one style of painting most of the time, but really like to branch off now and again to practice others.
I love to visualize how the game or movie will play out in my head, much like reading a book and visualizing it as you read.
Since beginning university I have been using 3dstudio max in order to get a better understanding of how 2D designs translate into 3D. Throughout the three years at university I have learned the importance of polly count and positioning, naturally building up in speed. I’ve also been using the animation feature in max, altering bipeds and creating short animations throughout my three years at university. Zbrush is another program I am familiar with, for the main role of normal mapping and texturing. Other skills include unwrapping of characters and texturing and some facial animation.
Loving what I do will always make working easier when I devote myself to a project. Adding little details to my work gives it a little something more. Researching into the subject matter helps me create believable and interesting game content.
Objective
My objective is to be a key player in a games company to ultimately make a game that wows the audience with its visual flare. Being able to learn and teach fellow work mates in order to achieve this would be one of my main goals. In the future being lead artist, helping other artists to visualize the overall feel of the game world and it’s inhabitants from start to finish would be a long term goal in my career. In the meantime working as part of a team would be something I have dreamed of since I can remember.
Experience
I have had three years at university studying how games are made, and in any spare time I love to enter competitions and weekly sketch groups on conceptart.org to further my skills in concept art. Freelance jobs for various people and companies helped fund my first year at university and trying to start my own game kept me extremely busy in that time. I have had one Daily Deviation at DeviantArt and have recently come first place in the ‘DEEP’ (Creature Category) competition at conceptart.org (Runner Up for the total competition).
Thank you for reading and I hope to hear back from you soon.
Yours Faithfully
Sean Donaldson
