Wow, its been about 2 months since I last updated this place! Sorry about that guys, needles to say this year has had many MANY annoying pitfalls which I wont go into and bore you to death :).

 Anyway, haven’t been doing much in the way of art lately, catching up on some games and relaxing with family and friends. Although by August that will all change largely when I kick start my work for the final year project at university. 

I am not saying much on what it will be yet, just expect a lot of Dinosaur mutant semi human post apocalyptic sci fi/fantasy stuff from me very soon!

Well here is my first sketch of a monster from this game Idea I have which will be part of my final project…the game will be much like silent hill in that the monsters and chars around you will be manifestations of your own imagination and actually mean something unlike most games where they just throw something in to look cool. lol

Here is a small project set by our university to use the tutorial model in max and create a 8-12second long lip syncing clip using morph targets. I have to say it was loadsa fun! Oh and 40 year old virgin rocks!

Oh and heres another animation for the shark man I finished a while ago…not that impressed with it really but live and learn!

Yup, just went to the doctors and had the damn thing cut out of my side!

HA! It took 4 needles to get the area numb! Then 8 stitches to get the wound coverd. IS it me or is 8 stitches a bit much? I had a cyst removed from my face a few years back and tha only took 3-4 and that was much bigger. lol Oh well, its out of me now! Now its the waiting game for the Good/Bad news….I seriously cant wait to stop thinking about this shit, its seriously effecting my work and just putting me in that ‘cant be botherd’ mood. Oh well, need painkillers for these damn things, be back soon! Oh and thanks for anyone who takes the time to actually reply to these boring jornals of late. I know they arent art related and probably quite depressing but cheers anyway

Well here is another loop for the sharkman. This one is the running loop. To be honest im losing interest in this assignment as it probably shows here…animation isnt for me. At least I have learnt something Enjoy anyway heh!

Well been to the doctors today and got checked out, it seems it is not my tonsils and most probably just the wisdom tooth kicking my ass. Allthough she wants a swab test to determine if it might be (small chance) mumps. For my age group its suppost to be common so lets hope not! I dont want huge testicles please!! Oh and the bad news, or rather more worrying then anything is one of my moles on my side of my body needs to get checked out in hospitol soon to determine if it has taken on a cancerous state…now thats something a bit more serious then mumps and has sort of kept me in a wierd mood all day…trying to focus on my work is harder now that I have that at the back of my mind. Life…just when you think its hard enough something bigger comes along. Anyway, im sure im talking to myself here so adious!

Yup, must be that time of year again for me where I get a killer throught and general pain in the mouth area. Urgh!! Its 5oclock in the morning here and I have been up all night in agony from (what I think it is) tonselitus & impacted wisdom tooth double teaming to give me maximum pain! So first thing is to find out what the hell is going on that even painkillers (good ones) wont do much for. Oh and my tongue has swollen up this past week leaving slight imprints of my teeth on the side of it…man IM FALLING APART!!

Not too much to talk about today, just been working on texturing my city block and exploring the different types of materials 3dsmax has to offer. I really cant wait to get back to my paintings after all this 3d work, its going to feel so refreshing! Easter holidays is coming up in a few days and im going back to my parents house for a week or two. Ahhh, gotta love those 260mile journeys with the pc in the boot of the car…please please dont break computer! Anyway heres a few screenshots of the digital imaging assignment so far…take in mind were only allowed to use 256 texture maps so things might look a little blurry in places, the good thing is all the stress of trying to make such small texture maps work is teaching me a lot more then if I had the luxery to unwrap the model piece by piece etc.

Well, today has been one of those very rare great days! My long time art hero Craig Mullins actually checked out my gallery and left a really nice comment about it on his website! I know, I may sound like a teenage fanboy but ..hmm well I guess I am! haha! In all honesty I feel humbled by his words and has given me a good kick up the ass to reach for greater things in my artwork. Here is what he said in full :

Sean, I just took a look at your Gallery, I am Very impressed. You have Tremendous potential. But you must be mentally and physically prepared to do better paintings.
I remember when i was a young lad.. I use to dream and think about “How these professional artists had gotten so good, i never believed i was capable of producing pieces that great!” I use to goto bed, crying with tears… grab my teddy bear and tuck him closely and hopefully one day be strong enough to tackle my ambitions and desires. Love your Paintings, like you would with a woman, a child.. your mother your father, your dead dog. But just paint the damn things, keep trying until you finally succeed. Thats all i really have to say. Keep up your Good work

I find it great that he also takes the time to reply to fans of his work.. which these days is quite rare with someone at his level. Awesome stuff! Oh and if you want to know what all the fuss is about with his work, just check out my links page where his website is and see for yourself.

Well, as you can see from the video below I havent quite got the animation side of things just right ‘yet’. This is a work in progress, im now moving onto a run animation cycle and in the last week going over all the animations and re tuning them to work better. For me this isnt too bad I suppose but I allways try to set myself goals that are bloody hard to reach at my level so ussially end up falling short! Doh! Hopefully the run animation will look nicer. Anyway hope you like it all the same!
